Theatre Program

4 Year Strategic Plan

Year 1:

  • In Classroom: Establish culture of safety and collaboration in the classroom. Refine Curriculum for each class.

  • Productions: Fall- Modernized Shakespeare 75 minute production of Romeo & Juliet (3 performances) Spring- One Act Competition Piece (2 performance nights and competition performance)

  • Fundraising: Program fee of $50 or volunteer time equally 3 hours ($16.67/hr) for each production, establish relationships with local businesses, campaign for playbill space to local businesses.

  • Outreach: Establish relationships with elementary and middle school principals, advanced theatre students visit one class and teach a workshop.

Year 3:

  • In Classroom: Advanced Theatre put on a full-length play.

  • Productions: Fall- Modernized Shakespeare 75 minute production of Macbeth (3 performances), Advanced Theatre full-length play, Spring- Full- Length Musical (3 performances plus student matinee), One Act Competition Piece (2 performance nights and competition performance)

    Fundraising: Program fee of $75 or volunteer time equally 5 hours ($16.67/hr) for each production, make ask to local businesses for sponsorships of plays and Shakespeare Competition trip, campaign for playbill space to local businesses, 1 fundraising event with theatre students, Year Round Fundraising campaign for Shakespeare Competition trip in Fall Year 4.

  • Outreach: Advanced theatre students visit one class and teach a workshop, Musical students perform at a couple of schools during lunch or during an assembly, some schools come see musical in an afternoon matinee

Year 2:

  • In Classroom: Add technical theatre unit to curriculum.

  • Productions: Fall- Modernized Shakespeare 75 minute production of As You Like It (3 performances) Spring- Full- Length Musical (3 performances), One Act Competition Piece (2 performance nights and competition performance)

    Fundraising: Program fee of $50 or volunteer time equally 3 hours ($16.67/hr) for each production, make ask to local businesses for sponsorships, campaign for playbill space to local businesses, 1 fundraising event with theatre students

  • Outreach: Advanced theatre students visit one class and teach a workshop, Musical students perform at a couple of schools during lunch or during an assembly

Year 4:

  • In Classroom: Established classroom culture and solid curriculum that can be adjusted here and there.

  • Productions: Fall- Modernized Shakespeare 75 minute production of The Comedy of Errors (3 performances), Shakespeare Competition pieces for Shakespeare Competition in Cedar City, UT Spring- Full- Length Musical (3 performances plus student matinee), One Act Competition Piece (2 performance nights and competition performance)

    Fundraising: Program fee of $75 or volunteer time equally 5 hours ($16.67/hr) for each production, make ask to local businesses for sponsorships of plays and Shakespeare Competition trip, campaign for playbill space to local businesses, 1 fundraising event with theatre students, Fundraising campaign for Shakespeare Competition trip.

  • Shakespeare Competition at Utah Shakespeare Festival

    • Typically 1st weekend in October in Cedar City, UT

    • Bring 5-10 Students

    • Competition using works of Shakespeare

    • $200 entry fee

    • Group discounts to see professional productions

    • Opportunities to have a talkback with a professional actor and technician due to connections with resident staff members.

    • We would also arrange a campus tour with Southern Utah University.
